Did you know around 80% of a child’s waking hours are actually spent outside of school?
You are your child’s best resource. But I know the school curriculum can sometimes feel overwhelming. Many families aren’t sure where to start with phonics, what is expected by the end of the year and can struggle to keep their child appropriately challenged and enthused with an ever increasing amount of homework.
As your child’s first educator, I know that when you are equipped with the key skills and knowledge, you’ll make a huge difference! If you’re a busy parent or carer, looking for simple and fun alternatives to learning using worksheets and apps, I will help you.

Hello! I’m Nicola, a specialist infant teacher and founder of Happy Home Learning.
I live in The Lake District with my energetic husband, my daughters, Rosa-Mae and Edith (aged 9 and 6), our mischievous pet sheep, Eddie and Philip, and our affectionate kitten, Willow.
My Mission
When I first began teaching, over 20 years ago, I introduced Year 1 parent workshops to help families support reading, writing and maths at home.
Families told me they felt more confident helping their child at home, once they understood the school lingo and the latest school methods. They no longer worried about confusing their child and attendance at these events was high.
Increasingly, such events are harder and harder for busy families to attend and for schools to offer.
There is a growing gap between the information families want and deserve to help their child learn at home and the capacity for overstretched and underfunded schools to meet these needs. Happy Home Learning is my answer to this problem.
In my spare time...
When I’m not teaching or busily making my products by hand, I also enjoy hiking, mountain biking, swimming and, if I’ve not left it too long, a serious amount of chatting with friends whilst running on the fells!
